State leaders in Oklahoma are leading the way in a number of policies to support high school transformation, including adopting a Portrait of a Graduate, advancing efforts to support college and career readiness for every student statewide, and developing resources for educators to effectively implement competency-based learning experiences. Oklahoma has enacted policies to align high school diplomas to college entrance requirements, and provides high school students with work-based learning opportunities and access to advanced coursework. To support this access, state law supports dual enrollment for eligible high school students in the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education. It also requires every high school in the state to offer at least four Advanced Placement courses.

"Human Potential for Future Industries Task Force"), announced in September 2024, recognizes the importance of real-world experiences and emphasizes the need to capitalize on students’ unique strengths. The task force, which engages educational institutions, community organizations, and industry, offers a unique opportunity for state leaders to accelerate high school transformation.
As Oklahoma continues to advance this work, state leaders could explore opportunities for a statewide initiative with dedicated resources to incentivize community-based high school redesign.
